Wairarapa Region - New Zealand
Just an hour's easy drive from Wellington, the Wairarapa is a region that has something to offer virtually everybody. From its main town of Masterton, the region is bounded by the picturesque Rimutaka and Tararua ranges to the south and west and a spectacular Pacific Ocean coastline to the east.
Wairarapa is a mecca for visitors with varied interests - whether it be adventure tourism, tramping, hunting and fishing, browsing for antiques, enjoying some of the finest wines and dining available anywhere in the country or simply soaking in the spectacular landscape, superb climate and famous local hospitality.
The Wairarapa offers a huge array of sporting, leisure,
and local attractions. For those looking for some action you may choose from
golf (course or range), jet boating, hot air ballooning, parachuting,
gliding, horse trekking, bush walking, rafting or canoeing, quad bike
adventures, fishing, diving and laser or clay bird shooting.
For a more relaxing break away we recommend local vineyard tours, Mount
Bruce Bird Reserve, Stone Henge Replica, delightful shopping in Greytown,
Glow Worm Caves, antique shopping through to arts & craft trails, a
stroll through our beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park or a day trip to Castle
Point or Riversdale beaches
Its smaller settlements have unique individual charm and feature many shops selling distinctly local products. The vineyards of the South Wairarapa are world-renowned yet still offer top-range wines at affordable prices to the discerning visitor.
The region also has many sites of historical significance, both the indigenous Maori population and the colonial settlers.
Centrally situated, Greytown manages to distil the very best of the region into a delightful compact package and a stay at The White Swan offers the chance to take in the many splendours and surprises of this wonderful region.
