The White Swan Hotel - 109 Main Street, Greytown
National Finalist honours again for The Swan The White Swan Hotel was
thrilled to have again this year been nominated as a finalist for the
prestigious Hospitality Association of New Zealand Annual Awards. We were a finalist in the 'Best
Hotel Accommodation" category. Rob and Jaime attended the black tie
awards dinner in Taupo recently and unfortunately just missed out on the top
honours placing runner up. This result does however
reinforce our belief that we have some of the most beautiful and unique Hotel
suites in New Zealand, check out our accommodation section for full detail
and photos or pop in to the Hotel for a free tour. History of The White Swan The White Swan draws inspiration from the elegant Crown Lynn vases - long valued by New Zealanders for their style and grace - which form the theme for this gorgeous Country Hotel in the heart of historic Greytown which embodies the fine traditions of a name famous the world over for excellence in affordable accommodation and hospitality. The main Hotel building was
originally a New Zealand Railways administration block in Woburn, Lower
Hutt. In December 2002 the building was relocated (see gallery for
photos) over the Rimutaka Ranges in six pieces on the back of a few very
large trucks. One of the six pieces almost didn’t
make it; skewing off the
back off its truck and teetering on the edge of the hill, closing the road
for eight hours. Now pieced back together and restored the building has
blended into the 125 year old Main Street of Greytown. The Hotel consists of thirteen
beautiful suites & studios, all individually designed by Michael Nalder
Interior Designer of Wellington. Michael has given the old
administration block a queer eye type makeover with a vision for a smart and
modern Country Hotel. Within the hotel proper there are seven wonderful luxury suites believed to be the most unique in New Zealand each with their own theme that makes a stay something truely special. For example; there is the Madison Room with its New York apartment style and the Bombay Room offering an exotic touch of India. Five of these suites have their own balconies, which beg guests to retire with a cool glass of wine on a beautiful summer evening to take in the sunset. Situated to the rear of the Hotel are the Park Suites and
Studios, which offer guests a tranquil retreat with balconies and patios that
back onto the neighbouring park. Proprietors Rob & Jaime Slater gave up their professional lives in Wellington to move to the beautiful Wairarapa and run their Hotel. They live onsite and love nothing more than ensuring that their guests have a relaxing and memorable stay. Our beautiful Hotel is the perfect venue:
